Anegre veneer is similar to Rubberwood and is sourced from Africa. It is a better quality veneer with a more attractive grain.
Some of our competitors will state that they are using Asian Hardwood. We do not shy away from the fact that we use Rubberwood for many of our series produced in Asia. Rubberwood is an environmentally friendly medium density hardwood comparable to White Ash.
Other environmental benefits of using Rubberwood are as follows:
- Initially used for latex production which drops after 25-30 years
- Trees are being harvested to renew the forest for new latex production
- Harvested trees are recycled into furniture production
- Locally sourced within a 500-mile radius of our factories in Thailand and Vietnam
We value the importance of using sustainable resources. All of our solid substrates are sustainably harvested from forests in Europe, New Zealand and Southeast Asia. Beech used to manufacture our product in Italy is also locally sourced within a 500-mile radius of the factory at our own sawmill in Slovakia.
In the interest of reducing the amount of composite wood products, all of our drawer boxes from Thailand and Vietnam are constructed of solid wood. Our Thailand factory uses Radiatta Pine, while our Vietnam factory uses Pawlonia for drawer boxes. All drawer boxes for cases manufactured in Asia are constructed with English dovetails.
Starting from 10/1/08, all of the MDF and particle board used at any of our factories will meet the E1 MDF and E1 particle board standards from the European Commission. The E1 low-emission standard will meet the Phase 1 emissions standards of the new California Air Resources Board (CARB) standard for formaldehyde that take effect 1/1/09.
All of our finishes are tested randomly throughout the year to ensure that they comply with the CPSC lead content standards under 16CFR1303. Our tests are consistently showing that all of our finishes are virtually lead-free with a total lead content less than .005% or 50ppm.
If there is any additional information that you may need, please do not hesitate to let me know. We want you to have complete confidence in our furniture.
Best regards,
Mark Woomer
